In the 2018 -2019 school year at Winfield High, the Reading Counts program has changed from being mandatory to 5 extra credit points in Language Arts. The reason for this is because educators felt they were forcing their students to read on their own time, instead they want students to enjoy reading for their pleasure. However, there are a certain requirement for points. In order to get the 5 extra credit points, you need a total of 50 points to receive all 5 extra credit points. For every 10 points the student will receive 1 extra credit point. Once a student finishes taking a Reading Counts test, there is a form that the student must fill out, and any teacher has to see the student take the test in order to sign it. There will be forms in the Library and in any Language Arts classroom.
